Common Name: Neem tree also called nim or margosa and Dogon Yaro in hausa.
Scientific Name: Azadirachta indica.
it is a fast-growing tree of the mahogany family.
Neem is a native to the Indian subcontinent and to dry areas throughout South Asia.
Neem trees can reach 15–30 metres (49–98 feet) in height and have attractive rounded crowns and thick furrowed bark. Almost all parts of the tree are useful, and many of its medicinal and cosmetic uses are based on its antibacterial and antifungal properties. Neem is commonly used in shampoos for treating dandruff, in soaps or creams for skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, and athlete’s foot. Neem leaves have long been used as a traditional treatment for diabetes, and there is some clinical evidence suggesting that it may help control blood, sugar levels. Neem oil and neem bark and leaves are unsafe for consumption by pregnant women and can cause miscarriage.

Neem tree is one of the legacy of the sardauna of Sokoto sir Amadu bello it was believed that he brought neem seed from India during his transit. today neem tree is very popular in the northern part of Nigeria.
Uses of Neem Tree in Nigeria.

In Nigeria the leaves are collected from the tree. they are boiled and allow to cold to 50 degrees where it is taken orally in the treatment of malaria. Although there is no any scientific verification and prescription as to what quantity a patients should take. sick patient take two cups per day. this is practice in the northern part of Nigeria and accidentally most patient get better after two days. some feel better after taking two cups per day.
Neem leaves are also use by local poultry farmers in the cure of dysentery in poultry birds. they leaves are dry and grounded into powder. two spoons of this powder is apply daily into the birds drinking water for consumption. it has been observe by the local farmers that this substance help cure bacteria infection which cause dysentery to the birds.
