My name is Hassan and my twin brother name is Hussaini. We were born on the 8th April 2012. We clock 9years two months ago. We live in Kastina with our parents. Our father is a Driver and our mother sells pap and akara (beans cake). We are the last born in a family of 8. We have a very happy home. Our father try his best to meet up with the basic needs of the family while our mother always make sure that we never lack food to eat and good clothes to wear. Through the effort of our parents we attain good school and eat three square meal. Being a driver, our father is always away from home and comes around only at weekend. they always quarrel with our mum about his Job." Transporting tomatoes from the north to south, east and Western Nigeria is too stressful for you, it's taking you away from your family, we only have you around for just Friday and Saturday. Please find another job and quit this one" our father will respond "don't worry if I come back from this trip I will find a better job". That was what the quarrel was always about. Some times in April 2019 our uncle came to pick us very early before the closing hour claiming that our father want to have a word with us on reaching home we saw people gather in our compound crying in different directions, people were struggling with our mum who was on the floor helpless. Our father had an accident on his way to Enugu and he lost his life at the spot. His body was removed part by part from the lorry and was burry in a near buy cemetery. Four months after his death, life became very difficult for us. Hassan and I have to drop out from school to start saling sachet water to contribute to the feeding in the house. One morning in October 2019 mother calls us after morning prayer and reveal a very top secret of our life. She told us she is not our biological mother but our mum's younger sister. Our mum is Maimuna. She lives in Sokoto state and begging is her profession. She is a blind woman who never got married. She was raped by a man who was never identify, probably taking advantage of her blindness. I took the both of you to stay with me when I was told that my sister gave birth to twins and no body to take care of her and the children. Then my late husband promise to take care of you twins. He promised to trained you and keep this secret away from you until you are able to feed yourself and take care of your mother. Am telling you this now because my strength can not accommodate you I fear your future might be tempered with so get ready pack your things. Am taking you back to your mother in sokoto.
Life is a bed of thorns with a pillow of rock in sokoto. Our mother live in a veranda of a medicine store where she sleeps there on a bear floor. With the little we safe from the sales of sachet water in Kastina we bought a mat for her. We continue our pure water saling in Usmanu Dafodiyo University students hostel. We make 1000 naira per day. Hassan will use 300 naira to buy food and take it to our mother then give her 200 naira to keep for herself incase she need something. We use 200 naira to eat and save 300. We repeat this everyday. We sleep under a security light on a bear floor. With our pure water container besides us. We just hope for better days. One day something tragic 😥 happened to us......
